Default 2018 Battery Replacement

Noticed the radio on my truck shut down after only a couple minutes after ignition was shut off. So tested the battery and it showed only 463cca(760cca rated). Truck was still cranking ok but no sense waiting for problems with a weak battery.

1) Swapped out battery.

2) Did the throttle body reset procedure(idle for 15 mins)

3) Drove the truck 15 miles for the transmission to relearn shift points.

4) Reset the BMS in the PCM with Forscan.

Did I miss anything?

Too late now, but next time you can avoid losing settings by using a memory saver. If you already have another 12 volt source, you can get an OBD adapter for less than $15. Here's what I got,.

Settings in memory don't seem to be an issue with this truck. I've had the battery disconnected before and did not lose the time or Sirius presets on the display. No memory seat settings to restore. The truck even remembered my fone both times.

I'll be darned! Well, at least it made me feel like I was doing something smart.

2) and 3) are completely unnecessary.

Thanks. Good to know my precaution was prompted by a bum steer.

Why not turn on ignition, but don't start - Then flick high beams on 5 times and apply braked 3 times. Your battery light should flash, this indicates the BMS has been reset.

Maybe so, but I took advice from a Ford tech and did it anyway.

The first time I had the battery unhooked was to replace the APIM, these 2 steps made a HUGE improvement to the drivability of the truck. Not so much this time. It still runs and shifts good as before.

I've heard of that method but it was no bother to hook up OBDII adapter, open up Forscan and do it that way.

I've read the system will also reset itself after a certain period of time with a new battery installed.

The system will auto re-learn state of charge, however, it can't learn when a battery was replaced. The BMS reset procedure resets the battery in-service date. The system keeps track of battery age as part of its battery management strategy.
