I don't blame people for wanting it fixed and I admire your determination to join a forum just to "rally the troops", but you are going about it all wrong and wasting peoples time. I disagree, respectfully. Government oversight is to look out for the best interests of the people. We pay for this. Clearly we are in a disadvantage on our own. Creating enough reasonable doubt regarding safety is enough for the NHTSA to look into it. Most likely, nothing will come from it. But in large numbers, even an inquiry from them on our behalf would help this issue get resolved quicker. Do it online, or calling. However you want to do it. As long as you file a formal complaint.

As much as you may want it to be, this isn't a safety issue and will not be viewed as such. Ford has had a history of timing component issues for 15+ years. Perhaps the Bureau of Consumer Protection would be more appropriate to your agenda.

It involves a custom tune and will jeopardize your powertrain warranty. In my opinion, as annoying as the noise may be, it is not detrimental to the engine and certainly not worth sacrificing your warranty to minimize or eliminate. If you are still interested in pursuing this, I can provide references for several reputable tuners who could work with you. The cost would be roughly $500-$600.

Gotcha, I'll probably do a tune in a few years but for now, I'll hang to my warranty

Its pretty clear that opinions vary...thats okay but lets not derail this thread and maybe keep the drama to a minimum?

This subject is important to me and I suspect others...I would like to see more members here continue to report on their findings, their experiences with warranty and dealerships as well as any thoughtful insights that may contribute to a possible solution.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity... was your rattle fix a random byproduct of your tune or did you and your tuner aim to elminate the rattle with the tune?

If the latter, was your tuner aware of the rattle and what they needed to do to eliminate it beforehand?

That's because a limited number had that manufacturing issue. In that case it does make sense financially. Every 5.0 has the potential to rattle. Apples to oranges. Ford bean counters are the only thing saving their azz right now.

Not a byproduct at all. The parameters adjusted have no affect on performance and are not within the range that a tuner will typically make changes. This was one of many experiments I did in an attempt to diagnose what was causing the noise and how to stop it. I made the changes myself using HPTuners software.
