I bought this truck to keep for hopefully 10 years plus. I just really wish I knew about this before I bought the truck. I would have passed to be honest.
Well, odd noises are worrisome, but as you said, no one really seems to have experienced any failures directly related to it, so I think it is just something to live with and not worry about.

MY 2019 had 8,460 miles on it when I bought it mid October. Now it has 10K. I may end up surprised with a rattle. Truck was full and my first fill was 89 octane. Went and visited my private mechanic and was told to use 91 or 93 only so I've been using 93 for the last two fill ups. Also, not knowing what Carmax put in for oil, I drained it out after the first and filled it with Amsoil 5W20. I have 1K miles on this oil. I check the oil often to see if it's remaining clear, not knowing how the previous owner kept with maintenance. It's staying clear but a little darker so it's good. If the oil looked black after 1K miles would mean it had to have been pretty dirty inside. Not the case. I'll change it once again at 3k. This is all for the phasers after learning about the chatter problem, if it's a problem. Many say it is not. I don't know who to trust, just going by my instincts and what I've learned about the phasers. I'm experimenting you see. I'll change my oil 3K or less if that's what it takes to keep them quiet. We will see. Another thing I do is let the engine warm up on cold mornings and I'll take off easy, drive easy until it's fully warmed. So far, no rattles. Like you, before I bought I had no idea of phaser rattle until joining this forum. I'll drive normal and stretch her wings at times to feel the power but I've never floored it. Being retired and not driving 30 highway miles going to work, my concern now is driving enough to get the oil warmed up enough to blowout condensation and fuel dilution and that's because I'm letting it warm up about 7 minutes long. No worried because I will changing oil again when it's neat 3K. Should the phasers in my truck begin to rattle I will certainly report it. I'll keep my truck in good condition fore it's not too late to trade it up for something else.

So, I would not give up yet. Keep using premium gas and keep the oil clean inside. Pushing oil to the limit like some seem to do, like it was a contest, is not my idea of good maintenance. Each time I take my truck out I wonder if today will be the day my phasers begin to rattle. I love this truck. I'll do whatever it takes. People will say I'm just waisting money on unneeded oil changes. It's none of their business. People waist on all kinds of things just for looks on their truck. If end up wrong then that's is for me to grapple with and go on from there but so far it's been no problem and my truck is running quiet and strong. You've got low milage. Don't give up yet. You don't know how it was cared for in the past. Good luck.

There appears to be no warm up period that makes the noise go away. Today it is 75 out and the noise is still just as loud as ever. Once warmed up it might be a little quieter but it is still there. No matter what gear I can still hear it.
I wonder if it's not a different noise you have. So the 3rd gen coyote seems to have all kinds of nice little noises.

the rattle, in my experience, is a loud, short lived rattle right after letting completely off the gas.

There's also the "typewriter" tick. I noticed something like this when i was in a garage port.

Also it can sound a bit like a diesel

yea I am pretty sure I have all those noises like the typewriter tick. No biggie and I don’t mind a loud engine. The decel rattle though, it is very obvious. I work at a airplane manufacturer and it reminds me much of a short burst of a rivet gun.

Some trucks have an issue with the flywheel coming in contact with a bolt I’ve heard it sounds like shaking a paint can. Not sure if this is happening to you. But I’d get it in before your 5year/ 60k mile, power train warranty is up.

Torque converter to flywheel or crank to flywheel bolt?

You should ask your mechanic why he thinks higher octane would help. I could see in the EcoBoosts but not the 5.0.

I too change my oil more frequently. I just get the cheapest full synthetic and change it twice a year, which mile-wise is almost nothing, maybe 3000.

The 5.0, especially the 18+, love octane with their 12:1 compression engines. On the factory tune they make 40-50 more HP on e85 and more than that in low end torque.

Now as far as noise goes, it doesn't make a lick of difference on mine with the cold start decel rattle but it does change the DI system click/clattering you hear when you accelerate moderately. Higher octane reduces it significantly but does not make it go away (but I have to listen for it when on E85).

Do you have any source on that hp increase? I spent some time googling and everything I found said it was a negligible gain unless you had a tune

luckily mine sounds good accelerating and doesn't use oil, but I have all the other noises, including the thunk on warm startup, a whistling, and a diesel like idle. The decel rattle is just embarrassing though
