Yours doesn't sound too bad then. I can be running for 15 mins then go though a drive-thru and it's very loud with the noise bouncing off the wall.

Tmcolegr, now that another week has passed, still going strong? Reading others' comments, it sounds like all TSB attempts here have failed except possibly yours - unless you've noticed any in your fleet since last update. Thanks!

So I think we can all agree this rattle sounds very similar to the timing chain rattle which the 3.5ecoboosts had? To me they sound the same. Really hope Ford doesnt brush this off.. this is one of those issues they can sit on until our warranties are out.

One thing that came up in the 3.5 version of this thread was that the 3.5 and 5.0 have a tensioner in common. The part number is different, but the design is the same and quite possibly has the same specification and same vendor. Anyone that has their truck in for this and they're recommending sprocket replacement should also demand that the tensioner gets replaced as well. It appears there have been several updates to the tensioner in question.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's something that has been revised over time to lesson the rattle noise. My first truck was built August 2017 and the rattle was LOUD, my current truck was built June 2018 and the rattle is much quieter. These comparisons are made before the PCM update, I don't have the August 2017 built truck anymore, so I can't comment on if the rattle got quieter, but the 2018 did get a little quieter after the update.

After the TSB update didn't work:
First Call: Customer Relations # that I posted a few days ago: That is a corporate number and you talk to a low level person that puts your info through to someone else
2nd Call: The local dealerships customer service rep called me and asked some questions.
3rd Call: A rep called me that was not from the local dealership, although he didn't mention if he was a regional rep or national rep, he referred to my local dealership as if he was not stationed there.
4th Call: The rep from the 3rd call said he'd call me back next Thursday with any info that he was able to dig up.

4th Call: I asked him what his job title is and where he is located (So I can give more info here). This guy is a regional rep for the North West and he works out of Florida.
Him: Asked if my transmission was shifting properly now.
Me: That was never the issue. ha. This was about the engine rattle and its still making the same exact noise as before.
Him: Okay, I'll have the local dealer give you a call to schedule an appointment to bring it back in and as a gesture of good faith we will extend your warranty free of charge. We'll talk about that after you bring your truck in.
EVERYONE should be calling this in, not only to make Ford find a fix, but also to get a longer warranty for free.

Here's all of my posts that describe the process that I went through:
I just called Ford Customer Relations 1-800-392-3673 and let them know. They created a case # for me and a representative will call me within 24hr's to discuss what will happen next. I read somewhere in one of these forums that they extended the drivetrain warranty to 50,000 miles or something like that. I guess we'll see what happens.
The Ford rep called me today and asked me a few questions. He ended up saying that some of the trucks make that noise and it was a "characteristic of the truck" (Their favorite phrase).
Me: Then why was there a TSB update for this issue?
Him: That's a good point.
Me: Why is it not doing it on every truck if it a characteristic?
Him: I'm not sure.
Me: So by deductive reasoning we can conclude that it is an issue that needs attention.
Him: I agree, I'll get the ball rolling on this and call you back next Thursday.
That wasn't the exact wording of the conversation, I paraphrased. It seems like they know its a problem but don't really want to address it... of course the people we are talking to on the phone or at the dealership really have no idea how to fix the problem, hopefully with enough people talking about it, Ford will have to take this seriously.

I have had the pcm reflash twice. The problem still exists when starting out cold. Talked to the dealership about bringing it back to them. They said you can drop it off but because we need to cold start it you have to drop it off at night a day before. On top of that no courtesy cars available 😡. Exact wording of the sales guy I got my truck from:
“ So the noise is a characteristic of the engine. It's a very sophisticated engine. It has a high pressure port direct fuel injection system. That's the noise that you're hearing. Like the guys at Dams assured you, it's normal. If you don't here the noise on a cold start, something is wrong.”
I was like why is there a tsb out of its normal?
Response :
“ Call it what you want. By that same logic I could say "why do you think the TSB *didn't* fix it", right?”
At this point I’m not sure what else I could do. Really frustrated.

Wow. Unbelievable pretty douchey if you ask me. I'd be pissed too.
