OP - just pick up a skid plate that covers it and be done with it (and I don't mean the factory tin foil 'skid plates' either)
I would imagine so.

The oil pan is a composite material.

Read all about them below.....

Technically yes, but it's not composite in the sense that most people think such as carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc.

It is glass filled PA6 nylon. Glass filled means tiny glass strands that look like hairs are blended into the plastic pellets that are injection molded into the oil pan shape. Typically the glass fill is in the 10-30% range.

I was at my dealership today getting my first free oil change and mentioned the "plastic" oil pan and asked the service writer if he thought they were a good idea. All he said was " it's not going well for Ford".

My 2009 F-150 had a steel pan - was almost rusted through by 2015. Dealer swapped it out for a new one before selling it on after I traded it in.

My concern is how it will hold up overtime. Remember plastic degrades and will crack, I do not know what the cost savings are compared to a a simple stamped steel pan.

It's a dumb and ridiculous design. I'm glad that I'm trading it in on a special ordered 19 F350 Lariat which the 6.2 has the steel one and it's a real truck. But the main reason I'm trading it in is because I needed a bigger truck for my camper. Just waiting on it to come in.

The grass isn't always greener, as they say. Good luck with the future problems that your new F-350 is sure to have.
