2018 5.0 plastic oil pan. I prefer an old fashioned steel one
 

I was crawling under the truck to look for a ball that rolled under my truck and I see a freaking plastic oil pan. Why??? It doesn't take much for a rock to hit and crack it causing a minor or major leak. I had a 17 and it had a steel pan. I wonder how much trouble is it to replace it myself?? Or I could sabotage it and tighten one of the bolts on purpose to get it to leak so the factory can be blamed for it(quality control issue). Any ideas?? I really want to do something about it. I feel that this new design is going to put more of these trucks in the shop due to cracking due to road hazard or the seals leaking like the current ecoboost engines.

And get another plastic one, through dishonesty? Not sure what the point is of doing that.

As long as the old oil pan was steel you may be right. If it was aluminum, anything you'd have hit a plastic one on, you'd shatter an aluminum one too.

if that's the case, I'll pay for a metal one. The labor is free under warranty anyway.

I had a 2017 that was steel. My truck only has 780 miles on it as we speak. I've only had it for 7 weeks. Even the freaking transmission pan is plastic also. Ford does find a way to cut corners. I prefer to do something about those 2 things within a few months. Just need some ideas.

So you're going to damage your oil pan intentionally to make a false claim on your warranty, then conveniently say that you want a metal one and you'll pay for it? To which they'll reply, "sorry, there is no metal one".

Ford didn't slip one over on your and swap them after you signed the paperwork, or not offer you to pay up for the package with metal pans, so I'm not sure why you consider it "cutting corners". You could have looked under one before buying if plastic pans were deal breakers.

The plastic might actually be more impact resistant than the aluminum pans on the 3.5EB. Not to mention I know a terrible driver who hit a center median and the steel pan was ripped open and lost the oil. Also, have you seen the polycarbonate clear rear diff covers? They don't dent like steel ones.

Maybe you should start looking at parts fiches and ordering parts (on your dime) to see what you can find, and then post the results.

Wait until you see the drain plug in operation.

Don't worry, it will probably start leaking all on its own. I noticed mine leaking at 9,800k miles and had it repaired.
