Default 2017 XLT Tailgate Lock

Hi all,

This is most certainly a dumb question where I'm not doing something simple correctly, but I'm at the point of asking for help. I recently got a 2017 XLT and am still learning the in's and out's. It's my understanding that the tailgate is supposed to lock with the doors but my tailgate remains unlocked. I have a functioning backup camera and although I don't believe the XLT has the proximity FOB for unlock, I tried with my FOBs nowhere near the vehicle and the tailgate was still unlocked. If it matters at all, it came with the tailgate pull out step.

Just wondering what I could possibly be doing wrong? Thanks!

Brad

The power locking Tailgate is a optional feature. I'm just not sure which option package it comes with. I looked in my manual, and there is clearly a section explaining how to use a manual key to lock and unlock the gate.

I have an XLT 302A, and it has the power lock. All I can say is, if there is a keyhole for a key on the Tailgate, you don't have a power locking gate. There is no keyhole on mine.

I also have a 302A equipment package and there is definitely no keyed lock on the back end of the tailgate.

No hidden keyhole up underneath the handle either.

Cool

I just looked at my window sticker and here is what it says: "Standard Eq: Exterior: Locking Removable Tailgate"

There are other things listed but that is what you are wondering about.

The 302A group lists the Rearview Camera & Backup Sensing in it.

I have "locking removable tailgate" listed under standard exterior equipment as well.

You should have it. It sounds to me like it's broken. Looks like a trip to the dealer is in store.

Cool

My first thought was a loose connection which has been shown above.

We are still in the remnants of Hurricane Harvey so it is a little wet for me to go out and investigate.

Look for this connector behind your spare tire. Yours may have more wires but its the white/brown and brown/green that power your tailgate lock. Make sure it's fully seated. Hope this helps.

I would definitely do this ^^^ and simply check the connector and be sure it's plugged in good before heading to the dealer.
