Let me start from this:
i had 2007 f150 with 5.5ft bed, had ladder rack to it, which fitted the bed.
Sold 2007, bought 2017 with 6.5ft.
I made ladder rack fit with 1ft left exactly in the front.
Ladder rack is aluminium and does have 4 support beams coming down and have 2 rails.
