I have a used certified 2017 F150 Platinum with 50K miles I just bought. The camera system really looks poor compared to my other vehicles, a friend's 2020, and another friend's 2022. Their cameras all look sharp and clear. Mine is not that good. I have a 2020 Toyota that is crystal clear, and my 2017 F250 looks clear but is a small screen.
The best way I can describe the picture is like contrast is low and the focus and color are not that good. Things are not sharp. They changed some cameras, and said they glued some camera (one had a loose lens), but the things just look third rate in daylight on a dry day. This is true even I I go to a single camera, like the rear, so it fills the entire screen.
At night all of this gets worse, of course. I can take some good pictures. These are just from my Android, but they look pretty accurate.
Is this just how sucky the cameras are in a 2017, or do I have a problem?? I really do not trust the dealer service department.
Thanks, Tom

You mean this is normal for F150 cameras? Why are my friend's F150 cameras better? The model year?
Pretty much! My ‘18 is the same, I even went as far as replacing camera and screen for a ‘20, still crap. Ford really dropped the ball there. I see my friend’s RAM camera, even screen, and I get envious, sharp, pretty colors, and the camera, wousa!!!
I only have the back up camera and seems normal to me.
This is my first vehicle with a back up camera. Drove my cousin's Nissan for a few days and the picture quality was the same.
With time the cameras lens will fade, almost like how uv light from the sun fades headlights lenses. That maybe be playing a part in the poor quality pic. Although I cant really see anything wrong from whats provided.

Picture yourself watching the same movie on a plasma tv and next to it an HD tv. You can see both, but clearly, one looks better than the other. Apply here.
My backup cam I can see clearly, but compared to other manufacturers out there, come on Ford, come on. Remember, we are not dropping 20k, not even 30k for these trucks. I rented a RAM, it was one of the lower trims, not even the 8in screen and the quality of the camera was outstanding to say the least.
Funny story, my brother just bought himself a Nissan truck, dropped 60k for it, platinum trim, and when he went to back up, I looked at the camera and was like, “dude, what’s wrong with your camera?” It was HORRIBLE! I mean, comparing quality, my truck is wayyyyyyyy up there. It just sucks that some manufacturers take pride in noticing those little things, right? And try to make them better.
I hate that Karen at Ford decided I can only use my cameras when parked or nearly parked. I like to keep an eye on what ever I am trailering. I paid for the system, why can't I use it?

They probably think they will get sued if someone looks at the camera and, while distracted, gets in a wreck. Same reason we can't play a DVD on the front screen while driving.
