Default 2017 Lariat 3.5 or 5.0?

I am getting a Lariat and have always been a 5.0 guy because I love the sound and usually put on Borla Exhaust.
I have not put this on my 2016 however so for the first time up in the air.
I love a snappy feel in a truck and if go with a 5.0 will probably get the 3.73.
I do not tow so that is not an issue, I know there is very little difference in gas mileage.

Is the 3.5 eco with 10 speed going to last as long as the 5.0?
I am sure some of you have researched this and can give me your opinion.

If you like the sound of the 5.0 then you've more then 50% already made up your mind. I'm usually a V8 type of buyer but I own a highly modified vette to satisfy that craving. Owned a 2012 Eco and now a 2017 Eco and very happy with the 3.5.

I (unlike you) do a fair amount of towing and there's no comparison between the 3.5 and the 5.0 IMO for towing. Friend has a 2016 5.0 and my Eco walks away from his truck when towing like he's dragging an anchor. Not even close....

I'll bet even money you'll buy the 5.0 since sounds is so important.... There's lots of reasons why Ford builds both engines. Different strokes for different folks as they say..... I honestly don't believe there are any bad choices... only choices! Good luck whatever you decided.

Thanks for the reply, I am very open this time and agree they are both good choices. I worked for a Ford Dealership for years and very few ecoboost buyers switched back to 5.0.
I love a lot of torque so will feel confident if I do go with 3.5 I will be happy.
You are correct though chances are will be another 5.0.

I'm about 2 years into owning my first Ecoboost. I'm fine with it. This isn't my main source of transportation. I don't give a rip about how it sounds. It does what I need it to do, haul stuff and tow my car trailer. If it was my one and only vehicle, I might be inclined to go to the V-8. The gas economy is not all that terrific.

My next will be a V-8....just a different brand.

5.0 and the Omega tune! I'm running my factory exhaust, I think it sounds great. The Omega tune cleans up Ford's Terrible shifting strategy and throttle lag. It truly is a different truck when you are done.

Dude is a master mind with the 5.0! I believe Ken started out at sct, then i believe he worked at mpt and now has his own tunning business. Check out his site. I have his Omega tune and was blown away.

I started driving when V8s were the norm and am predisposed to buying them. I am 1.5 years and 24k miles in on my 2015 Supercrew Lariat FX4 3.5 eco. No way would I buy the Coyote unless I was going to drop a Whipple on it to make it a beast, and I already satisfied that itch when I added a Magnacharger to my previous Avalanche. The 3.5 eco has plenty of power and tows anything I am going to tow with ease; I have close to 2k miles with various trailers behind the truck. The 10 speed would provide even more incentive for me to buy the 3.5 eco over the 5.0/6 speed combo. YMMV....

I arrived at that same decision point. For me the 17' with 10spd and 3.5EB pushed me over the edge to go with the ecoboost. I'm happy with my decision and only regret is my 'quiet' ride but at the same time I enjoy that as well.

My advice is to go with whatever your gut says will make you happy. I don't think there's a bad choice out there. I love the torque of the 3.5EB in mine. We took a trip over some pretty steep hills this past week, and it's amazing how the truck just keeps pulling up the hill without having to mash the gas peddle. The torque is there at such a low RPM.
