Default 2017 HD Payload package? Canada

So I was playing around with the idea of getting a new 2016 F-150 last year but decided to hold of since my wife got a new Explorer Sport. Guess I just saw all those new F-150's on the lot! Lol

Currently own a 2007 Silverado 1500 4x4, 5.3l. It's getting a little tired, plus it's an extended cab and my kids are getting bigger. Think payload is only good for 1400 lbs.

Thinking about going crew cab with 6 1/2' box(guess it's actually 6' 5" in crew cab form). Don't want a 5'5" box since I'm in construction and haul material. Also want to outfit it with a canopy, heavy duty racks, and a roll out tool storage.

I was also thinking about going with the HD payload package and 3.5 EB engine with Max Tow, as we've been discussing getting a travel trailer or speed boat also. It seems HD payload and max tow aren't selectable options for 2017 trucks, on the Canadian site anyways. I know I'd probably fall within my limits without ordering those options, but would rather overkill it than, max out the truck. Don't really want to drive a F-250 or 350 daily either.

Looks like the HD payload option in 2016 also limited your other options such as Sport Appearance etc.

Whats everyone's thoughts on HD payload and Max Tow?

You need to pick the 3.55 or 3.73 rear end before the HD Tow or Max Tow will show up as option on the website. A bit of scrolling down and up on the option list.

I would take hdpp in a heartbeat if Ford would stop being so ridiculous with the options that can be selected. I want a 502 lariat but cannot get hdpp. I think only 500a. Why? Why Ford? Why?

You need to pick SCREW with 6.5' bed and 3.73 axle for HDPP to show up as an option.

Hdpp is only available in the Lariat 500A package not with 502A. I tried to to that on my 502A can't do it. Can be done in lower level packages.

Exactly what I was saying. Not allowed to much luxury in a work truck I guess.

I not slammed for suggesting this on the toe/hauling threads but I will suggest it again to you as it was the way I went in order to have the options I wanted. Order the Max Tow package, gives you everything the HDPP has other than two things. The HDPP has a little thicker frame (1/32") and a different spring pack. Install an add a leaf gives you 950lbs extra in the rear. In my opinion the extra frame thickness does not make that big of a difference unless you are hauling over 2000lbs on a daily (every day) bases.

Now this is the place in the thread I get flamed by the HDPP fan boys.

Thanks a lot! That's kind of a pain having to go up and down like that.
They should design the website better. In 2016 you would pick all that stuff first, payload, towing etc after choosing engine, body style and drive type.

So are you suggesting I do without HDPP and go with aftermarket parts?
That wouldn't change what's on the decal legally sadly.
That would open up the possibility of choosing a "higher optioned" truck.
I'm ok with going with a xlt model, don't need/want leather etc., but I do like the sport appearance package(except losing console space with that shifter there)and bigger wheels that come on the non-hdpp trucks.
I'd also basically like what my current Chevy truck has and then some.
3.5eb or 5.0(yes I know 5.0 doesn't have max tow option), 4x4. Crew cab, 6 1/2' box.
Additional things that I'd like. Auto climate control, auto 4x4 setting(current truck has those things)
Bluetooth phone and audio, backup camera, heated/power tow mirrors with spot lights.
Plus the addition payload and towing!
