Default 2017 Ecoboost - cam phasers rattle, cracked valve cover

Long story, but summary: I took the truck in 1.5 years ago for a rattle. The dealership originally said it was the cam phasers, they needed to be replaced but we’re on back order. They told me the truck would be fine to drive until the parts come in. Two months later the parts came in, and then they told me that actually the rattle was the waste gate, not the cam phasers so did nothing to my truck and told me the noise was normal.

Two weeks ago while having an oil change the tech asks if I’ve had the cam phasers replaced - I said no, and he said they need to be replaced and your valve cover is cracked, probably related to the cam phasers. They want 3600 to repair all this. The truck only has 55,000 miles, now out of warranty.

I gotta say, I think it sucks that a truck with 55k needs almost $4000 in engine repairs.

I’m worried after reading threads that I’ll spend all this money and continue to have problems with this truck.

Thoughts? How worried should I be that I’ll have continually problems? Should I trade it in now and be down with it?

Well the updated cam phasers seem to have fixed the problem. The valve cover is plastic and seem prone to crack. They gotta take the valve cover off anyway so adding one to the bill really isn't a big deal. Any car will need maintenance no matter what. Even the old tundra with the bullet proof 5.7 have a Achilles heal. 3500 dollar cam tower oil leaks. Have to basically take the heads off go fix.

I agree with all vehicles need maintenance, but 4000 in engine work at 55,000 miles? Idk, I think that is ridiculous. At 100,000, ok. I get it.

I mean you can keep driving it until a check engine light comes on then you will have to fix it. That's when the cam variation finally exceeds the allowed amount. Fix it now of fix it later. My 17 didn't need it until 89k.

Didn't Ford extend the Cam phaser warranty out?
