2017 with Cat issues. Buy or pass?
Found a 2017 Crew F150 4x4, with 133k miles for sale. The guy wants $14,500. It looks to be in great shape.
He says he priced it down because of the check engine light, which "shows a code for the catalytic converter". (I didn't think to ask for the code number when we were on the phone).
With the price, miles, and condition, my first thought is just go make the 2.5 hour drive and get it, who cares about the engine light.
But I figured I might should post and see what someone here might know about this, and if it could actually be NOT worth it.
If I'm lucky, it's an $80 sensor. If it's the cat, that could be ridiculously expensive.
Or since it's a just going to be a work truck, maybe its worth ignoring the issue and just driving it?
Another thought is (if the cat is bad), why at 133k miles? Would this be an engine issue? If so, would it just be tuning that needed adjustment?
If it is the cat, is this most likely something that I could just turn a blind eye to and drive another 150k miles?
So idk, got a lot going on in my head about it, but I am probably going to have to make a fairly quick decision before Monday.
would like to hear y'all's thoughts

Cats going bad at 100k are fairly common, that alone would not ruin the sale if the price is right. You might have a hard time finding oems. Take your obdii reader, or drive past autozone with your test drive.

It didn't last long, I figured someone would beat me to it since it's 2 and 1/2 hours away. He posted it, I called, and when i called back about 30 minutes later with a couple more questions, he said somebody down the road seen it, walked in, paid, and left with it. Lol.
