Default 2017 cam phasers

Has anyone heard of adding “ Planet Safe OT “ to the oil to quieten the cam phasers? Does it really work? The old saying is …..if it sounds to be good to be true then it most likely is too good to be true!
if I do have to replace them what is the typical cost?
Thanks.

I had the code pop one time due to rough idle and it cut completely off. I just checked and change the oil then once again after 3k and I have never saw it again. I have almost 200k on my 2016 now for reference.

Thanks for your reply. Nobody has responded about the “planet safe OT” and I’m guessing it must be just snake oil! I read this out on the Internet and it sounds like what you have done of keeping your oil changed and using a good oil.“Replace oil filer and oil with a good brand of synthetic oil 5-20 only and put Z-Max oil treatment in”

I’m sorry I didn’t include the engine size which is the 3.5 6 cylinder turbo eco.
Thanks.

Default 2017 cam phasers

I’m pretty upset at myself I didn’t check this forum before I bought my 2017 F150 3.5 Eco boost. Is there any recourse with Ford or am I basically out the money for a repair? No code has popped up yet but it does rattle a little on startup. I’m reading to not let it go or I might end up with a much larger issue. It has 172,000 miles on it and it didn’t start rattling until the last couple of days. Please advise and how much should I expect to pay for new phasers?

There are many, many threads on this you can read. If the rattle is just starting for you, using any kind of 'snake oil' won't fix the problem. It's a mechanical issue that oil isn't going to fix. With 172,000 miles, I'd probably just run it until it gets really bad and move on to something else, or sell it right now. You are looking at $3,500-$5,000 to replace them. The problem isn't going to go away, but you might make it another year. One trick I did that helped postpone the repair was to do the extend cranking for cold starts. When you press the start button, hold the gas pedal to the floor and it prevents the truck from starting. Let it crank over an extra 5-10 seconds which helps build oil pressure, then take your foot off the gas and it will start. It helps some...

Default Cam phasers

Thanks all. I’ll take your advice and limp it along with my usual oil changes.
