Default 2017 with 5W20

Hey, my Ford dealer just did a oil change for me. All good, but they used 5W20 instead of recommended 5W30. I tow TT all summer. Do you think any issue? I think Ford changed the 3.5l to 5W20 for 2022's as well.

All Ecoboost's use 5W-30, all years. Dealer screwed up.

You could go back and share the invoice with them and have them redo the oil change to the correct weight. They will tell you it is fine, as will many people.
I would probably go back to the 30 weight at the next change, unless you are an annual oil change kinda person.
Maybe change it out earlier during tow season, instead of going the whole summer on the 20 weight, especially as temps rise. The 20 vs 30 weight has a crossover point high enough to withstand the temps -if you are traveling through Death Valley at high capacity load, you may want the added insurance of slightly higher temp threshold.

Unless you can watch the work, there is no guarantee they will actually give you 6 free quarts of oil. If you do go back -are you going to travel with confidence the oil has been changed and/or will you blame every and any tick or higher temperature on the dealership/oil? There is probably always going to be doubt in your head unless you drive in for a change and request 30 weight and pay for it.

It cracks me up how often you mention that.
You disappoint today though, you didn't tell us how cheap it is for you.

Update: So Dealer sent me Text as a follow up to the maintenace appointment for any concerns before Ford sends me their survey.
I reported my concern last night by Text, and have to give them credit, got a call at 10am.
They said the Tech would have used the Bulk system which only has 5W30 synthetic semi blend and believe the the wrong product code was used on the invoice. They claim the tech would have to make a separate order through the parts depart and order the 5W20 by individual bottle which is highly unusal.
They still offered for me to come in and redo the job to address any concern and gain my satisfaction. I'm pleasantly surprised. Good on them.

So does this imply that if a 3.5 NA engine comes in for a change, they would bulk fill it with 5W-30 despite 5W-20 being specified for the 3.5 NA?

you will probably notice oil consumption like the guys who use 5w20 are complaining about. I use 5w30 in my 2019 5.0 (full synthetic) and the level stays at the mid hashmark level. I check it and leave it alone.

my normal oil change of 5W30 for my 3.5L has always been perfect for 65K km. We'll see how this goes. Hopefully the product code of the oil used was just incorrect.

I'm sure the dealer just loves seeing you walk in the door...
