The job took about a day and a half. Took 4 weeks for parts to get in though. I just drove it while they were on back order.

I can live with it as long as I know it will be fixed. Just stinks. Especially when the dealer is 40 min away but hey it's better than paying for the parts and labor

I'm gonna take her to the dealer tomorrow and see if they can determine its the backlash in the rearend and hopefully get the parts in order and in the meantime drive the truck.

Sure will. I have a 3.55 gear wondering if this follows that axle ratio. I'm gonna take it to my dealer tomorrow and I will update you guys as soon as they give me an answer

Update:
Took ford tech for a ride. He determined it needed new ring and pinion so that's where I'm at with it now. Gonna order the parts and get it fixed.

I am glad i found this thread. My 2015 XLT with 3.55 gears has been making the same noise for over six months. So during the next visit to the dealer i have to get Transfer Case noise fixed (TSB) and now Rear Differential work.

Not too happy with the quality control on this truck for major components that should have been perfected over time. I would bet the two failing parts have offshore components in them due to cost cutting.

That's it I'm taking mine back and telling them to replace my ring and pinion because I'm reading on f150 forums that others are having theirs replaced and the whine go's away them saying it's normal is BS!!! I also have 5.0 with 3.55s
