Default 2016 Sync 3 No Android Auto, Can't Update

So I just bought a 2016 King Ranch with Sync 3. Current version is 2.3 17109. I tried just plugging in my phone, no AA. I tried using the Syn3 updater, and when I plug the USB into the usb slot, it does nothing. Tried connecting to wifi and doing it over the air to update, nothing.

Do I need to buy a new usb hub HC3Z-19A387-B? I thought that it was only for Apple Carplay.

I did the whole retrofit for my 2015 and that went well. Just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. The only thing I found in the forums is that someone had a bad APIM. Thanks!

Update to the latest 3.0 build available for your truck directly from Ford with the USB drive before messing with CyanLabs. You're only adding complexity to the problem by introducing a 3rd party updater. Make sure the USB drive is formatted per the instructions on the Ford update site.

OTA updates are known to be problematic at best, usually not working at all on older builds of Sync.

There is also a setting for Android Auto in the Settings menu that needs to be set to enabled.

There is no Android Auto in my settings or an Android Auto tile.

I tried the usb update from Ford.com. When I plugged the usb into the hub, nothing happened.

What is the USB drive formatted as? What do the layout of the files look like on the USB drive? Have you tried a different USB drive? How long did you let the drive stay in the port after plugging it in?

1. exFAT
2. a. SyncMyRide folder
b. autoinstall.lst
c. DONTINDX.MSA
3. I'll try a different USB now.
4. 2 to 3 minutes? But when I did this on my 2015, it updated immediately.

Correct, should not need a new hub for Android Auto (only for CarPlay as you noted).

AA will not show up on the Sync screen until it launches for the first time.

I think Android Auto is included with Sync 3 v2.2 and up? So it should already work for you.

Almost a pattern that both the update USB and AA is not detected... assuming the usb stick is formatted correctly.
So that kind of invalidates the suggestion to try other USB cables for your phone, but it's worth a try.

Maybe your USB hub is not working.

That's not good. I'm on 2.3 and it isn't popping up...

What phone do you have? What is the Android Auto version number on your phone?
