Default 2016 Maintenance Schedule?

Am I understanding this correctly? (pages 462 - 464 in the manual)

Regular Driving:

Every 7,500 - 10,000 - Oil Change
Every 20,000 - Cabin Air Filter
Every 30,000 - Engine Air Filter
Every 100,000 - Engine Coolant (50,000 thereafter) & Spark Plugs
Every 150,000 - Transmission Fluid, F&R Axle Fluid and TCase Fluid

Nothing about Power Steering or brake fluid changes?

Under the towing condition it shows Tcase fluid / spark plugs at 60,000 miles and Oil at 5,000 - 7,500 miles but doesn't have any special notes for earlier replacement of Transmission or F&R Axle fluid.

I looked on Ford's website and it seemed consistent to the manual. I've never owned a car with recommended 150,000 mile fluid changes on the axles / transmission. My previous Jeeps (98, 04) and Subaru all recommended 30,000 changes for the Axle and TCase and 50,000 for the Transmission.

Yep, with new oils and materials in these engines, its what they recommend. Funny thing is though, i took mine in around 7500 for the oil change and the guy told me i was a little over on mileage, i said not according to the manual and Ford's recommendations. He just kinda looked at me like i had a d*ck growing out of my forehead.

Yeah, the dealer put a 5,000 oil change sticker when I bought the car - I removed it when I got home. (they used an actual sticker though which left a sticky residue and needed a razor blade and goo-gone to remove though!!)

I usually go by the book too - Our Mazda and previous Subaru had 7,500 oil changes so i'm used to that being longer.

Not so much the other stuff though - that's nice to save that money in maintenance. Although, i'll probably do them a little earlier to be on the safe side.

same story here. went in when the OLM said 9%. The dealer said it was a little past due.
then they put a 5k miles on the sticker.

Fluid changes are minimal in cost.

If you leased it and are giving it back, you can use their schedules, but if you are keeping it for the long haul, I'd cut those figures.

My past cars were a BMW and a Volvo and I both set of technicians mentioned that the stated interval figures are stretching it a bit if you are going to keep the car/truck

Yeah, I bought it so I plan to do 5-7k oil intervals and will likely do the other fluids earlier too. I thought 50k was stretching it, but it looks like even at 100k the fluids are 50k early.

We'll see how my driving habits become - if I tow more I may do everything around 60-75k, otherwise maybe around 100k.

This.

The extended times are all created to reduce the "cost of ownership."

They are adequate to get your truck past the warranty period but for the long haul they are too long of intervals.

Funny I've had the opposite with oil changes. Since I tow I took mine in for an oil change at 5K miles. The mechanic at the shop said I didn't need to come in but every 7.5K or when the truck told me to. Told him I towed so was following the severe schedule. I will likely change the transmission fluid at 50K just to be safe. In the grand scheme of things it isn't that much money for peace of mind.

many modern transmissions are "sealed for life" meaning that you can change the fluids at 150k miles and do a full transmission flush but chances are you can run the transmission another 50k-100k without doing that as well.

once you reach 200k+ on a transmission it's worn and failures are bound to happen... regardless of that transmission fluid change or not

Engine oil I change around 6k at the dealer and cabin air filter every 15k (change it myself and the filter is cheap)

changing tranny fluid and doing a full transmission flush every 50k is total overkill... plus you add risk for things going wrong in the shop when they do it. metal shavings who are settled at the bottom get stirred up and might cause bigger issues if the transmission fluid exchange isn't done properly.

many modern ZF transmissions are "sealed" (for life) and do not require ANY fluid changes.
