Question 2016 Lariat Key FOB replacement, five buttons

One of my two keeps malfunctioning and existing topics on this seem a bit old. I'm new to this dilemma and am confused about how to go about it. I prefer to avoid a locksmith and the dealer. That said, I'm not sure where to go other than it seems the Amazon options are useless.

I gather since I have one working key I can program a new one myself. Question is where do your recommend I buy one - prefer online - and if public recos are discouraged I'd certainly appreciate a private message.

Many thanks and one final q: why do others refer to a locksmith "cutting" the new key? Seems it's all electronic and the metal shaft that's in the existing one could just be swapped.

Thanks!

You might have 2 working fobs which you need to have to program a 3rd. Take the batteries out of both fobs and try starting the truck by putting the fob into the slot. If both fobs work your golden.

Remember just because one or more buttons are jazzed up doesn't mean you can't still use the fob for programming. I bought my 3rd fob from Ikeyless if I remember correctly. about $150 for a 5 button

I got mine from Amazon... genuine OE key fob.
Amazon Amazon
Unfortunately I only had one key fob as the 2nd was missing when I bought the truck. Dealership charged $150 to program the new one.
