Default 2016 needs new front differential already??

Just got back from my dealer. Bought a 2016 Screw KR two weeks ago and started noticing a humming sound while driving after first putting it into 4A about a week ago. Once I switched back to 2H the hum refused to go away...as seen here in this thread https://www.f150forum.com/f118/4x4-4...288521/index3/

Took it in once and they thought everything looked normal, brought it in a second time and turns out the front differential is destroyed. They are ordering a new one, but unsure how long it will take.

Anyone have an issue with the front diff on their 15/16 yet???

Not trying to sound like an a**hole, but are you sure you were in 4A and not 4H?

Yep, put it in 4A for maybe 10 miles after some light rain just to check it out. I've had previous Fords and never noticed any odd sounds out of 4A which is what alerted me.

Other than the cooled seats issue, my truck *had* been mechanically perfect. 2015 Lariat SCrew w/ 3.5EB.

Until yesterday. Driving back in the rain from PA, I stopped in CT. At a red light, I put it in 4A as previously I'd spun the rear tires. No issue at the light. Got back on the highway & drove a couple miles when I heard a loud groaning/grinding/whining sound. Saw I was still in 4A & immediately switched to 2H. Pulled off at next exit. Put it in park & restarted. Could still hear a slight whine and felt a bit of vibration.

I already had an appt today for the passenger seat tsb fix, so asked them to have a look at the 4wd.

Sure enough, he heard the same noise, and found there was gear oil on the outside of the front differential, and all over the undertray. None *in* it. Diff is shot.

Said 3-4 WEEKS lead time for a replacement, but put it in as an emergency order & hoping for sooner.

Oh, and the passenger side seat cover zipper is shot too.

Not a great day.

What's does ford do for people if they're truck is taken from them for such a long length of time? I feel like one should be compensated somehow.

They honor the warranty. Nothing about a loaner car unless you get an extended warranty with that coverage.

Your dealer can decide to give you vehicle, or Ford can also do that. Either is not a policy, but a one-off decision.

Lexus provides loaner cars for service as does most other luxury makes. Interesting that ford chooses in what areas they want to compete with luxury makes.

To me part of the price you pay for a Lexus or bmw is due to the way your treated when servicing the vehicle.

Damn, so I'm not the only one, sorry to hear. I'd recommend PM'ing Chad the Ford rep on here. I was told 3 weeks as well, reached out to him and he contacted the regional rep. Diff arrived two days later.

Oh, and the passenger side seat cover zipper is shot too. It's been in one dealer or another for six days so far for the cooled seats and they're still not fixed.

Not a great day.
