I just bought an xlt with 302a package. I have the mft with 8" screen. It apears that Ford will not be updating it to make it compatible to Android auto or car play. This is all I want in a touch screen display. There are new after market double din units coming out soon. If I replace my head unit will this void my warranty? I will be happy when mft is gone as its waste of my dash real estate and 8" screen. Unfortunate that it will not be fully utilized.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone has attempted to replace it with anything besides the sync 3 version from 2016's which costs over a grand. I'm currently in the same boat as you thought, ford screwed people who bought new generation 2015's to find out 1 year later their software support is being discontinued (Or minimal bug fixes...)

 

How about the warranty? Lots coming on the market ... and after purchasing a new vehicle with an outdated head unit upgrading through Ford is not an attractive option.
