The 04 Titan felt like a sports car compared to the 5.4L...
It's really too bad Nissan didn't keep up with the program...it would have pushed Ford even more.

Mind you, the ram has some pretty pathetic towing numbers at 7500lbs, but still... my eco gets 9-10 fully loaded and they got 19...

.....
That ecodiesel will suck *** towing an actual full height travel trailer, and will likely get slightly better mileage than an ecoboost, because it will not keep pace. With 240hp, it's going to require a lot of patience, every hill and every time passing will be a slow event. 240hp is peanuts in a full size truck. Sure, it has toque, blah blah blah. It's only got 240hp, end of story.

The Ram also has such low payload, you can overload it with 5 yankees and a BBQ.

the 7.3L turbo powerstroke of the 90's had 250 hp and a tad over 500lbs of torque. considering that I think the dodge will do ok. I may not be a speed demon but it is not intended to be either.

a dealer in town has one sitting on the lot. I wouldn't mind driving it to be honest to see how it does. I wouldn't own one purely because of the payload you mentioned.

ahahahaha that was great!

In all honesty though, my stock 1st gen cummins with 185hp still is enough to haul around so power isn't everything.
fully loaded pulling 11,500lbs, my ecoboost doesn't exactly do a stellar 0-60 time either. Its working hard.
so I don't think the new truck will be slow or feel completely gutless. that said, it aint gonna be earth shattering loaded to full GCVWR....

you guys should read this comparison from diesel power on the ecodiesel and 2500. Its pretty interesting stuff.

Im not gonna buy one, but I'm VERY interested to go test drive one! Besides, if this takes off, we'll have more diesel half tons and who doesn't want that??

Up here the cold months are a PITA with a diesel.

I mean, this isn't the the 90's any more...
Diesels start at the push of a button and don't smell, smoke, or even sound like a diesel regardless of the weather.

Unless its really that miserably cold where you live....

Yup, diesels can be a pain in the butt, not to mention the added maintenance costs. First you pay a premium just to get a diesel. Fiat Ram charges over $3000 for their ecodiesel. Then you have to add the urea additive in modern diesels.

In my case, not worth the added cost. The Ecoboost in the Ford has the same torque as the Eco diesel and the price premium is about a third of what Fiat Ram charges.

Some folks pay the premium thinking they will save money on fuel, but you would have to drive that truck for many years just to make back the $3000 you spent to get it.

If I had a diesel in a truck, I would want it to smoke, I would want it to be loud. I love the engine sound of a Super Duty with the Powerstroke.

All good points, kilo. Since I'm not a towing guy (more of a land yacht, sit-high visibility & safety driver), I don't need a diesel. I live in a rural, blue collar subdivision with many diesel pickups. During the early morning-late afternoon commute hours, the 'hood sounds & smells like the apocalypse with all the diesels coming & going. My '15 F-150 will surely be the quietest truck of the bunch...as were my '97 & '04 5.4 rigs.

if you travel a lot it will work great. if you do nothing but quick runs less than 5 mile trips you will have nothing but issues down the road. these truck are a good alternative to small commercial vehicles like a cab over Isuzu's. you can buy a trailer a tow with this instead of spending big money on a Isuzu diesel cab over with a lot less options.
