Default 2015 F150 2.7 Edmunds Long Term Test

Pretty good read; however, I'm surprised at how low fuel economy they got. Completely different than the reports of 20+ averages here on this board.

Good read, interesting on the fuel economy though. I guess it could be possible that multiple drivers may just like getting into the boost range, which does kill MPGs.

Worst Fill MPG: 13.3 (towing); 14.0 not towing
Best Fill MPG: 23.1
Average Lifetime MPG: 16.7 (6.0 gallons per 100 miles)
EPA MPG Rating: 20 Combined (18 City/23 Highway)
Best Range: 706.6 miles
Current Odometer: 21,156 miles

The overriding theme remains unchanged: We like driving the F-150 quite a bit, but the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 delivers nothing close to its promised fuel economy. It's more than a little disappointing, quite frankly.

That long term test is one of the reasons why I bought my 2.7. I have only had it for two days but in 80% city driving I'm getting 19.9 MPG. I'm very pleased with that number. I know its way too small of a data sample to compare to anything but I really like everything about the truck.

I have talked to two different owners of a 4X4 supercab 2.7's and they have had 26 & 28 driving normal. It all depends on how much fun you have and cab style, gears, etc. They can be good on gas.

Since this is a 2.7 thread related to mpg's I'll ask here... By the way, this is not a "my mpg is terrible" rant. I'm just wondering if I'm the only person who's "dashboard gas mileage "GUESTIMATOR" is always showing about 2-3 mpg more than reality (hand calculated at the pump)? I've been seeing a ton of folks talking about how great their mileage is and then showing pictures of the on board computers mpg calculation screen (the one with the hours/gallons/trip/mpg) as proof. I have the 36 gallon tank and every time I fill up, i put about 3 gallons more into the tank than the OBC tells me I used and, again, telling me my mpg is 2-3 mpg better than it actually is. Before I put the new tires on, about two weeks ago, I was averaging (mostly "city" driving) just a shade under 18mpg (actual mpg) when the OBC is telling me I'm getting just over 20. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about my actual mileage, I just want to know if it's just MY truck that is lying to me This is pretty darn good considering the 2WD configuration I have is about 500lbs heavier than the one Ford tests for their EPA #'s. Never mind the fact that you never know what rear was in the test vehicle. Thoughts...?

My MPG on dash and Calculated are almost spot on.... now I have never checked how much gas it says I used to fill up compared to how much I put in... I'll check and let you know.

I have had this too with the 36-gallon tank. It tells me I've used 32 gallons and then takes 35. I've only filled it four times I think, but on at least 3 of them this was the case.

And yes, my hand-calculated mileage comes out about 1.5 mpg lower than the display on the truck.

Thanks Carmmond! If I use the OBC figures (including false gallons used metric) the mpg is correct. The fuel volume monitoring may just be off then. So maybe this is something that I need to have the dealer look at when it's in for service in the next month or so. Thanks for the reply!

Huh...maybe it's a symptom of the 36 gal tank, although Carmmond has a 36 gal and doesn't seem to have the issue.
