Well I got some insight from another member on my build thread. He shared a video from Engine Masters on Youtube with me that discusses the very issue of the myth of backpressure. For any interested I have included the link at the bottom of this post. It's about 6-7 minutes long, but they test 2.5" pipe vs 3" pipe, and then put on mufflers that restrict the flow a bit. During all tests the engine is on a dyno so there is real world evidence that swapping to 3" MIGHT cause a loss of a whopping 0.5ftlb of torque.

With that said I intend to stick with my original plan of going up to 3" after the resonator, running a Magnaflow 12298, then dual 3" all the way back. The tips will get pushed wide on the rear or be centered between the license plate and tail lights. I'm hoping to get this done this month.

4" OD at the egress of the tip, just like the link you posted. That's a great looking tip and just what I was looking for. Thanks!!!

Please try and post sound clips of custom setups. Stage 3 has tested several of the bolt on kits and have taken videos of all.

Now for my conundrum that I'm at. I had this plan to run 3" pipe from resonator to a Magnaflow 12298 muffler, then dual 3" out the back. The exhaust shop that I talked to yesterday told me I would lose serious amounts of low end torque, which I definitely don't want to do. They advised 2.5" pipe from resonator to muffler, then 2.25" pipe out the back. My question comes in that the bolt on kits all have different sizing pipe ranging from 2.25" back (dual) to 3" back (dual). I can't imagine someone would market a bolt on kit that will cause low end torque loss. So will running my original plan of 3" all the way cause low end torque loss? Otherwise, what would be a good setup recommendation? I'm open to suggestions.
Getting Back to OP

The muffler shop was talking about back pressure as others listed. I would recommend their advice. However, I do see kits from major brands offer 3" inlet to 2.5" for SIDO mufflers. I would stay with 2.5" pipes, as 2.25 might be too restrictive. I think they want to use 2.25 inch for the duals, due to bending constraints. However 2.5" can be done at a good shop.

I generally stay away from duals, I know its popular for its look, but changes the ideal flow designed for the 5.0.

I installed the MagnaFlow 190790 SISO it uses 3" pipe where the stock resonator pipe fits up to the stock muffler. It's very similar to the stock exhaust, However sounds better at idle and under acceleration. One thing I can't stand is exhaust drone, or extremely loud mufflers that rasp. So its a perfect setup and is the most similar to the stock set up.

OP - look at the Borla ATAK. Exits where you are requesting, super nice sound, all stainless.

Kinda pricy, but I think it is worth it. Borla is top notch, in my opinion.

I think I'll start saving now for this exhaust for my 5.0. ðŸ‘ðŸ¼

Well the cheap bug got ahold of me... Thanks tthibault16. Haha. I'm planning to just swap pipe from the resonator to the muffler to 3", then run a thrush or cherrybomb glass pack muffler. I'll either leave the tip in the stock place or do an axle dump, not sure yet. One shop told me $125 to do a muffler swap, the place I talked to on the way home said $230 which is just insane. I'll see if I can figure out a way to post the exhaust clip he emailed me which made my mind up along with price.

I had true duals installed Tuesday on my truck. 2.25" from headers through Flowmaster super 40s to 3.5" tips out the back. Sound is incredible. Quiets down at highway speed, but most of the driving I do is city because I have a company vehicle, so my truck doesnt see a lot of road time. It's still too new for me to be able to keep my foot out of the throttle. Shift points seem to be changed a little bit, almost like it holds gears longer (and I don't mean in Sport mode)? At the same time, I've only put about 20 miles on it since having it done, and I figure it's gonna take a little time for the computer to get used to it and recalibrate as well. Real test will come when when BBQ contest season starts back up and I start hauling the smoker to competitions.
