tenacious, what tires and size do you have?
I avg 23.7 from computer. My tires were 31psi. I just made it 36psi.
Are yours wearing even?

I have tried to stay pretty light on the throttle as I was looking for mileage. I didn't notice a change in torque but I wasn't looking for it either. And to be clear, on a 36 gallon tank which was full of 87 octane, the first fill up in Houston would have only added about 13 gallons 0f 93 Octane mixed with 23 gallons of 87 Octane. As the day wore on and I kept adding more 93 octane at each fill up, the octane level should have increased as the day went on. Again, not sure why I saw the sudden increase in MPG after the 1st stop in Houston. I would have expected the increase in MPG to increase with each fill up, not jump all at once. Logically, it doesn't make total sense given the results and what I know changed and when.

My truck came with Hancook Dynapro's in 265/60 r18's. I have no uneven wear at all after 42k miles.

I've seen a couple of other responses on this forum - one recommended a couple tanks of Premium Fuel (93 Octane) and I've seen other posts where fuel mileage suddenly increases anywhere between 3K and 5K miles. I left CC with about 3800 miles on the truck. Houston is about 220 miles so would have just over 4K by the time I arrive in Houston. Left CC with a full tank of 87 Octane. Averaged between 17-18 MPG. I refueled in Houston and tried 93 Octane. To my surprise, my mileage jumped to 20+ and even touched 23 MPG on the highway for a short time - per the AVG as calculated by the truck. This lasted all day yesterday, and has continued into the MPG for today's drive as well. However, hand calculations using mileage and amount of gas pumped calculates to 1-1.5 MPG less than the truck calculates. None the less, I'm excited for the moment. I'll be in FL for a couple weeks, then back to TX and eventually back to Colorado in January. I'm not sure if it is the Premium Gas, hitting a certain mileage, something else, or just coincidence but it still does not make sense to me (but I'm glad to see it). I've never had a vehicle which required Premium gas in order to get close to EPA estimates and since I have a 36 gallon tank, may take some time if I go back to 87 octane before I'll know if the change in mileage is/was related to gas octane or not. With the current plans, I'll put another 5K miles or so on the truck in the next month. I'll see how these go in the coming weeks and post updates. In the meantime, I've ordered an ODBII reader and will purchase Torque Pro and see what I can learn there.... Thanks again to those who have responded to my post.
Good stuff man. Its always a learning experience to find out what works for your truck & in your real world driving. I found a post I made when my truck only had 2500 miles on it and I got 19 mpg's on 95 with 3 passengers. These trucks definitely loosen up after being driven.
Post up any results you have, I'm always down to learn a new trick or try something that works for someone else.

I believe as you do big changes in octane you should do as much of a full tank as possible. That's what I did and noticed an increase in torque and close to the same mpg. - .2 of a mpg on the tank. I did it with Shell to use the cleaner in the gasoline instead of buying techron. It was also very hot weather and so didn't have winter blended or that cold day loss either. Since I seldom tow and just haul around 300/700 lbs I don't for see needing 93 octane shell except as a piston cyl cleaner as it is more easily obtained then a trip to Wally World for a bottle of Techron. If I figure the gasoline used to go to WW I get the more expensive 93 Shell at an affordable price.

Here's the mpg according to the computer from my last tank of gas. Some stats of the truck; 2.7 eb, Screw, 302, Sport, sunroof, 2wd, tonneau cover, 23 gallon tank, tires at 40 psi, a/c barely used (sunroof and rear sliding glass open), around 90 feet above sea level, 93 octane, average temps 70s-80s.

Trip 1 was reset when I filled up the gas tank.
Trip 2 was set reset at my last oil change.

After filling up with gas I immediately got on the highway and set the cruise control to 65 mph. During the 37 minute drive and got 32.5 mpg. This is by far the highest I have been able to get.

The last two pics are the end of the tank with a final avg of 25.4 mpg.

Noticed it is saying 519 miles to empty even when it is saying 32 mpg. The puter hunts all over the place to find its usage when you change Octane levels but the trip ticket didn't change and it would if it was actually 32 mpg it would be way up there well above 600. Every time I have experienced great gas mileage I also watched the range until MT grow and these were when I had to stretch out the mileage range until the next station say range 40 miles and driving distance 37 and by slowing down stretched the range 15 miles and easily reached the gas station with near a gallon to spare.. Fact is you will get more torque from the 93 octane but most certainly a few tenths to several mpg less mileage if you keep running it. If you drive hard it will be better for the motor most certainly.

I have always used 93 or 91 whichever was higher/available since new. Could the 519 prediction be based on the lifetime avg which is around 22mpg?

if my understanding is correct, the miles to empty is based off of your last 500 miles driven & your current fuel level.
