Default The 2.7 gets no respect

Whatsoever.

I've been asked many times "why would you buy a half ton with a 2.7" The answer is I test drove it. I also watched YouTube videos of it towing and doing it with ease.

I've seen it many times around here. People referring to it as a grocery better etc..

I have a friend with a Ram. He asked if I wanted to race him, I laughed and told him I didn't want to embarrass him, just told him to Look it up.

I admit when I first heard about the 2.7 I didn't want any part of it, until I drove it that is. I was going to tune it but IMO there isn't any need.

Anyway, anyone got any OMG it's a 2.7 stories?

Same here. When test driving all the different trucks, they always gave me the V8 to drive. Until I went to Ford. They brought out the 3.5EB. I commented during the drive that I was surprised at the engine. The salesman stated that the 2.7 is even more surprising. I of course just laughed him off. But he insisted I drive it.

The only reason I did is because I had extra time to kill and I was curious because he talked it up. I figured it was normal sales BS, instead I was surprised.

Here it is almost a year later after buying it and my co-workers still comment every time I drive when we head to lunch. Comment about how well it pulls, the gas mileage I get, etc..

Agree 100%. My neighbor who drives a 2013ish Ram 1500 w/5.7L, catches me outside and says "nice new truck, that have the Ecoboost in it?". I tell him that it has the smaller 2.7L in it. He makes a wierd face and says "well, at least it looks good", I just smiled and said it has more power than you think. His truck sounds like a diesel when he fires it up.

The 2.7 is an all-pro receiver. Think Doug Baldwin.

The 3.5 is an all-pro tight end. Think Jimmy Graham.

The 5.0 is an all-pro running back. Think Marshawn Lynch.

Hell I'm so proud of my little 2.7 I make sure everyone knows what it has in it right on the License plate...

Took a 400 mile trip today - Filled up my tank at the start & reset the tripometer then drove with the cruise locked on 76 MPH, this is the result at the end of the trip

Personally, i like all the engine choices. I've driven all of them, even the 3.5 NA. It has more power than the V8 of the early 90s.

All good choices.

If I ever run into something it can't do than it means I break out the 6.7 Duramax.

Lol I love that plate. I'm going to see if that's available in WV.

I went out of my way to buy the 2.7.

1. Fastest (to 60) of all engine options
2. Did all the towing I needed (meaning the 3.5 was never considered)
3. Most cost effective (minus the natty V6)
4. Most fuel efficient

I read that the 2.7 is the most popular engine on the F150 by far, and it makes sense for all the above reasons. I've never been a V8 guy, so I have no history of needing that in contrast, and it seems like one of the worse off options of all available.. unless you want to pay extra money for some roar and worse gas milage? Either way, I don't care what engine other owners buy as long as they're happy.

I had 1 guy. 1 F150 owner (2016) who asked why on earth I'd pick the 2.7 over the V8.. but before I could answer hopped on his high horse and went on a rant about how V8's are better and the 2.7 was a Honda engine. So when he asked again, "Why did you get the 2.7 bro?" I replied..

"Because I'm smarter than you ... bro."

I have had V8s ranging from 327 to 425 CID. Later I bought a V6 cougar then a V6 Ranger then finally back to the V8 5.3 chebby.
When I went looking for my F150 I was really wanting a 3.5eco and the first dealer actually talked me into driving a 3.5 NA and I was impressed that the same motor in my wifes edge actually did ok in the big screw. He then had me drive a ecoboost and I was impressed and when I looked at the sticker and saw 2.7 I said WTF? That has to be a mistake. I went on to drive several other trucks including the 3.5 and 5.0 and after a little research online and by "the seat of my pants" method I bought the 2.7 and never looked back. It is so fun to drive and its the smallest engine I have ever owned. Awesome.
Did I say this thing is FUN? But then if your reading this thread you already know that don't you.
