Default 2.7 ecoboost long term updates

I bought my F-150 new October 11, 2016. XLT, 4x2, 302A, Tow package, 3.31 EL axle, Blue Jeans, Dark Gray flow through console, 2.7 EB engine.

I was originally very interested in the 5.0, but after driving the 2.7 I changed my mind. That and a lot of research on the 2.7 ecoboost as well. I had driven all vehicles in the half ton class except for the Nissan which I think looks horrible.

I'm right at 55,000 miles now and will tell you what all I've done to my truck. It's not much.

Window tint front windows
Truxsport tonneau cover
Husky floor mats (front and rear)
DeeZee bed mat

First oil change at 1986 Mobil 1 5w-30 and purolator filter (it was all I could find)

2- spare keys

Second oil change 4625 Mobil 1 5w-30 and motorcraft filter

Putco chrome skull caps for mirrors (I like a little chrome, don't judge me)
USB hub replacement to make the apple car play work in my 2016 (Sync 3 but built before the hub was installed so I did it myself)

Third oil change 9450 Motorcraft oil and filter from dealership (they overfilled the engine and I drained the oil and put in Supertech 5w-30 full synthetic)

Fourth oil change 14386 Mobil 1 10w-30 and motorcraft filter

Du-Ha rear underseat organizer (I really like it)
Gorilla Lug nuts (one piece nuts because the factory nuts were already starting to deform)
Builtright backseat release lever (worth every penny)

Fifth oil change 20001 Valvoline SYNpower 5w-30 and motorcraft filter

1 year ownership, mileage 21615

Sixth oil change 26253 Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 motorcraft filter

Seventh oil change 30000 (exactly) Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 motorcraft filter

Cabin air filter FP79 May 2018
Engine air filter 32763 FA1883

Eighth oil changer 35055 Castrol Edge 10w-30 motorcraft filter

End of bumper to bumper warranty on June 28, 2018
Replace damaged windshield
Replaced factory Hankook's on August 4, 2018 (severe road hazard or they would have gone 60k easy)
Bridgestone Duelers LTH at 38975

Ninth oil change 40007 Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 motorcraft filter

2 years of ownership 42358

Tenth oil change 44795 Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 motorcraft filter

Autostop eliminator (awesome little addition that I truly believe is worth the money)

Eleventh oil change 50192 Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 motorcraft filter

Engine air filter FA1883
Ronin oil pan plug
UPR valve cover crankcase breather (replaces oil fill cap) I pulled this off about a week later because it was blowing oil mist in my engine bay
Cabin air filter FP79 April 2019

Twelfth oil change 54533 Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 motorcraft filter

October 12, 2019 Three years ownership 66509

No issues with the truck, I still need the recalls done on the frozen door locks and the seatbelt actuators. Ford dealers are not interested as much in me since my truck is three years old and they can't sell me a new one.
Not really many gripes about the truck or engine/trans so far and if she keeps doing what she's doing I will be pleased.

More to follow...

Just last night I gave up my leased 16 with just under 40k and purchased a 19 with the 2.7 again. I love this little engine and that 16 was a flawless truck, I hope this 19 treats me just as good. I test drove a Ram on the way to the Ford dealer and really liked it, but that 2.7 was the big reason I stuck with Ford.

Nice write up.

I see that you bounced between 5W-30 and 10W-30 a few times.

Any particular reason?

Mostly due to heat, Central Texas and we were routinely over 100 several days in a row. 10w-30 is also a little more shear stable than 5w-30 and in Texas we don't get below freezing in the summertime. I've pretty much settled on 5w-30 Magnatec unless I see some reason to change. It has stellar used oil reports on bobistheoilguy for all sizes of ecoboost engines. I'm only going around 5k between changes but I hope to run my truck for 300k miles or more.

I see no repairs other than the windshield which is kind of like a maintenance item like the rest of the list. It’s been a solid truck for you for sure!

I am at 21.7 mpg hand calculated with my usual drive. On road trips I am getting over 24 mpg if I keep it around 70 mph.

Nice write-up indeed; very impressed with your spot-on records! And DON’T apologize for adding chrome!!

I have, since 1986, been a FIRM believer in full synthetic oil (& filter) changes every 5000 miles. My ‘86 4-banger Grand Am was well over 100K miles (5 speed tranny called for 5-30 motor oil & had it drained & swapped to synthetic too); my ‘08 Ram is over 155K, my ‘04 Suburban was over 207K when I gave it to a friend...you guys get the point. ALL of the Dodge/ Cummins diesels I’ve had (‘97, ‘98, ‘01, ‘07) ran on synthetic Rotella-T 5-40.

While I only have 4300 or so on my ‘18 3.5, it’s great to read another positive post on one’s truck. Btw, since currently I only have a utility trailer to tow, I kinda wish mine had the 3.31 EL instead of the 3.55.

That's pretty damn good. My tank to tank average so far on mine (only had 6 weeks now, 2300 miles right now) is about 16-17 because my commute is all surface streets, bumper to bumper traffic. No highway. On a recent work trip to Nashville from Atlanta, the trip odo said 24.8, but after tooling in Nashville commutes it dropped to 22.1 by the next fill-up. Fuelio said I actually got 21.06 for that whole tank.

I have the 3.55 rear end with the tow package. I'm still stoked that a pickup truck can get this kind of gas mileage though. I love this 2.7.

Rolled over the 55,000 mile mark on Memorial Day, looking at the end of my powertrain warranty. I couldn't bring myself to buy the extended warranty. With all my trips planned for the summer I should be over 60k by the end of July.

This reads like my experience!

I got my truck off lease two years ago with 23k on the odometer. I’m approaching 90k.

Regular oil changes.
Replacement windshield.
Warranty tires (they were bad when I bought truck)

Just changed air filter this weekend. Knock on wood, been pretty solid aside from the eco-boost rattle.

Edit: Just for reference I’m not talking about that god awful timing chain rattle - this is something different.
