In my case, the truck made a intermittent high pitched squeal while warming up from my initial purchase date. A couple of months later, at ~7400 mile mark, heavy black exhaust began pouring from the tailpipe during the engine's warm up period; once it warmed up, the smoke went away. I brought it in to service that same day the I saw the black smoke. I never had a check engine light come on once. The Ford tech claims the truck idled rough; I never experienced that - not to say it didn't when the tech checked it out. FYI: I usually start my truck using the remote start feature and happened to see the exhaust while loading my truck up.

The diagnostics and repair, in my case, were (from the receipt):

Verified concern smoke and rough idle. Visual inspection pass ran away sis found TSB 172077 follow diagnostics procedure in technical service bulletin step one verified build date step 2 no codes present procedure to replace cylinder heads evac and recharge ac sys reset misfire monitor updated PCM to latest calibration pref final test drive passed all monitors normal op at this time.
Well, I spoke to soon. Woke up this morning and started the engine and black smoke poured from the tail pipe that went away after the engine warmed up. One thing has changed now, I notice the engine idling rough while stopped. Stopped by the dealer on the way to work and was told to keep an eye on it and to get back with them if it happened again...

I just picked up a pre-owned with 31k miles on it a month ago. We do mostly around town driving and we're only averaging around 16mpg. Not good. I have driven some highway and it goes up to between 23-24mpg. But the around town stop and go kills it even with start/start technology.

reset the computer and clear the memory from the truck so it will learn your driving style and not the previous owners

I have 18,000 miles so far on my 2015. Only issue was that the aux transmission pump stopped working at the beginning of summer causing the auto stop/start not to engage. Just got around to fixing it last week, and the dealership fixed it for free under warranty in about 2 hours.

As far as MPG, it varies so much based on the type of driving you do. On the highway driving 55, you can easily get 23-24 mpg. Going 70, the mpg falls significantly. I think I get 16-17mpg around town.

Just about to turn 10000 on the odometer, no issues thus far. Getting 19.4 combined. Hand calculating after a fill up I'm averaging right around 18mpgs with mostly 75% city driving.

Keeping an eye on it means checking your oil! Not your exhaust! It is the oil leaking into the cylinders that is causing the exhaust. You should not notice any drop in oil level on your new truck. If your have to top it off, or you suddenly find you are 2 qts low, get it in, fast. If it goes into limp mode or starts misfiring, it's new engine time!

Have a 2015 2.7 with about 25k miles and the last 10k been running a 93 performance time from unleashed. Needless to say my mileage sucks but I will blow the doors off of anyone ! Love my truck and the engine is more than capable. I'm a realtor/real estate investor. I can load whole families in the truck to take them around to show houses and the next day I can load it up with **** for a property I'm renovating or tow trailers to the dump etc. I've loaded A LOt of concrete and paving stones, etc and hauled them with no issues. I don't do that stuff day in a d day out like a general contractor but it's nice to be able to do it if needed
