Default 10R80 Replacement options

My 2018 with 63,000 miles is showing symptoms of the CDF drum failure. Harsh shifts, fault code for incorrect 10th gear ratio, etc. Fluid level is ok. I plan on replacing the transmission, looking for opinions on what to use. I can get the OEM ford transmission for around $5k, or the BD "Roadmaster" for around $4k. Its hard to find any real world info on the BD transmission, anyone have one?

This isn't my daily driver, but it gets run harder than most, wife hauls a goose neck horse trailer, runs about 7000 lbs loaded, and when I haul my small back hoe up and back to camp, truck is probably 8500-9000 lbs. It rarely does not have a trailer hooked to it from may to november.

Sorry, I don't have the info you're looking for, but you definitely need to make sure wherever you get it used the updated drum design. If you don't know about it, check out some videos from Flying Wrenches on Youtube. Sharp kid!!!

find a good trans shop and get yours rebuilt....then you know it will have all the updated parts in it and it should be for less $$$.

I do not have a transmission shop near me that I trust to rebuild it. I ordered a brand new transmission from my local dealer. $4999, bill was around $6000 with all of the miscellaneous hardware, cooler lines, and new cooler. It has a 3 year warranty. Transmission comes prefilled with fluid as well. It has all of the updated parts like the black anodized CDF drum, newest valve body, pump, etc.

Got my transmission installed a few weeks ago and truck is just like new again! Used forscan to program the new solenoid strategy and reset all of the adaptive learning tables. It was really a pretty easy job to do, only thing that really fought me was the hardware on the exhaust down pipe. Did it a friends garage with the rear wheels on ramps and the front frame on stands with the front tires removed.

OEM ford, brand new, not reman. Shipping made any aftermarket reman transmission not as cost effective. Hard to beat a 3 year warranty as well.

nice job, I am pretty sure I will be doing this to mine at some point. I am not sure if I will put on jackstands like you did or take to a friends place and use his hoist....we'll see when the time comes. I have started to ask around to see if anyone has a cheap/free 10R80 core so I can try to rebuild it myself, doesn't look that hard to do so I would like to give that a try.

Was that a wholesale or retail price? The local transmission shop told me he has these towed to the Dealership to do the programming after he installs. Can you do all the programming with Forscan? I have never used Forscan. What is involved with the programming?
