Default Is the 10R80 fatally flawed?

So im going through a buyback on my 17 due to transmission rattles... Im deciding whether or not to spend the extra $9K to move up to the F250 with PSD.. Or take the exchange of collateral Ford is offering and get a new 18 F150...

Does anyone here believe the 10R80 issues may turn out to be as big of a systemic issue as the well documented faulty Dual Clutch they put in the focus that could ultimately cost Ford north of a Billion dollars?

That is the reason I went with the 6 speed, I did not feel like being a guinea pig to Ford.

So Ford is buying back your truck for a transmission rattle? They haven't changed out the transmission yet?

I don't think they are fatally flawed. Mine has been flawless for 19,500 miles so far.
I had issues with the 6 speed in my 2014 so I'm not a big fan of that tranny anymore.

Correct. They put a new valve body in it. It made the issue worse. Concurrently, after 7-8 trips to the dealer, I applied to Ford for a buyback. The dealer ordered the transmission, but before it arrived, Ford approved my buyback request. I thought for sure they would fight me on it but they didnt... Which makes me wonder why? Is this in fact an issue they are aware of and they want to mitigate damages? I dont know the answer, which is why I posted, for others opinion/input.

They didn't fight you because the left hand didn't know what the right was doing. Pretty typical for a huge corporation where logic would dictate changing the entire transmission but the "paperwork" was already in place for your buy back.

There are 100s of thousands of these 10 speed autos on the road and the only place you hear any kind of problem with them is the very few on a forum where any problem is made to sound like a massive flaw.

In short, the 10 spd auto is a wicked awesome transmission. You'll find a 1000 people who love it for every person who has an issue.

THIS...... I also had a couple of issues with my 6 speed so therefore ALL 6 speeds were/are flawed? So far my 10 speed has been excellent and I love the transmission a lot more then I ever liked my 6 speed.......... Much ado about little in the total of number failed 10 speed trannys in F150's IMO.

Nope not fatally flawed but it's very common to have issues with a new engine or transmission in the first few years. The 6R80 has been very reliable but there were problems with the mechatronics and harsh shifts in the first few years but Ford made changes and it's one of the best from Dearborn. Very few full failures in the 6R80 mostly mechatronic failures in early units. Not 100% positive but I believe the 6R80 was the foundation the new transmission was built on. Ford is very pleased with the reliability of the 6R80 and use it's basic design for all their RWD transmissions including the 6R140 in the Super Duty.

The 10R80 isn't going anywhere and regardless of what bumps in the road Ford encounters with it, they'll work them out and it is the transmission of the foreseeable future. It's already being used in the Mustang and the F150, two of the best selling vehicles on the planet. If it was fatally flawed, we'd already know it...

When you add in all the GM vehicles (trucks, SUVs, Camaro, Corvette) that will be using the same transmission there will be millions on the road in the next few years.
