Question 10 Speed Transmissions

I'm sniffing around, thinking about trading in my 2011 F150 with a 5.0 for a 2018 F150 with a 5.0. Has anyone had any issues with the new 10 speed transmissions? I'm nervous about getting anything the first production year. I just thought I'd get some data from the field. Thanks in advance.

The 10 speed came out in 2017 on the 3.5 eco. You'll find lots of mixed reviews. My 17' runs great no issues at all, love it.

Keep your 6 speed! Wait until they have all the issues worked out. Maybe 2020.

You'd be wise to check it out for yourself. You'll hear every extreme viewpoint here, and the truth usually lies in the middle.

Personally, I love the new 10AT. I had a nearly identical model truck in 2015 with the 6AT. The 6AT was great, the 10AT is better. JMO. Good luck!

There have been numerous, I know of three, TSB's on the 10 speed since production started in '17 and some of the issues have been "softwared". From my past experience, I don't know if i can class that as a "fix" but it's a gesture anyway that the FoMoCo has applied.

I came from a 6 speed behind the EB to the 5.0/10 pair. The engines and R axles alone will determine different shift points and there isn't much similarity, IMO between the two- a much different driving experience with each setup. I notice the 3-4 shift in the 10sp as the most pronounced, almost annoying? So far Ive had no issues but mine still smells new (10/18 mfg.).

You may have the new update for the shift points, the TSB is supposed to fix it.

I have a 2018 5.0 with the 10 speed (3,000 miles), and my advice would be to stay away. Maybe Ford made some improvements for the 2019 MY.... but my 10 speed whines ("normal"), squeals during gear changes (dealers have no clue), rattles(supposed programming fix), and clunks(new mystery?). So far it still shifts fine, but I really don't see the trans lasting. Oh yeah, now my engine sounds like it has the Mustang BBQ tick when idling cold... gotta look into that now too.

If you test drive one, get the trans warmed up to at least 160deg(set display setting in cluster). Drive slowly from a full stop next a wall with your windows down. Drive in Sport mode also.

12k miles on mine and I don't have any complaints on the 10 spd. I have other complaints, but I digress.

I love mine... approaching 7K. I run it in sport mode all the time and love how it shifts with the 3.5EB... the only thing that doesn't love it is my credit card when it comes to the gas pump. It does have the pump whine, but that's only audible at slow speeds up next to a building and doesn't bother me in the slighest.
