Default 10-speed Trans Temp Normal?

Ford says the normal ATF operating temp range for the 10R80 transmission is 206-215 F. I have never seen mine above 190 F. I do have the Max Tow Package with external trans cooler and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it not going above 190 F. I've even taken it on 300+ mile highway trips in summer, but still nowhere near 206 F.

I'm not complaining, but just curious. I would also like to add the procedure for checking the proper ATF fluid level calls for the trans to be brought up to 206-215 F.

I have always been curious about my temps too. I regularly see 190-195 and always thought that was hot but if what you say is correct then I'm happy with it.

I also have max tow

Those trans temps are normal. I have the 6 speed but same operating temps. These transmissions also have a thermostat built into them. The thermostat does not allow any trans fluid to flow through the cooler until fluid temp reaches near 200*f.

I never see trans temps reach 200*f unless I am towing something fairly substantial, even then it usually takes about 30 miles to reach 200*f. I have never seen it get over 210*f. Even towing up a mountain in the summer heat.

I guess I'll have to borrow my friend's camper and tow the crap out of it on a hot day before checking the ATF fluid. Haha.

Yeah I think those temps are when towing. I drove mine up and down some mountains in GA using tow/haul and the engine/trans brake and it never broke 200, granted that was unloaded though just GF and our luggage.

The most I have seen with my 2017 XLT 3.5 Eco Max Tow is 203 f and that was towing 7500 lbs up some long foothills on I-75 in Kentucky. Otherwise I'm at 190-195 towing or empty.

I'm wondering how the hell Ford got 206-215 F as normal operating temperature. In my 15 minute (11 mile) daily commute to work I'm lucky to break 160 F.

this. I think the highest I’ve ever seen mine was like 208 when I was towing my TT in 98 degree heat at 7000’

it takes a LONG time to warm up. I drove from my house to Salt Lake City the other day which is like 45 minutes and I was still at 145 degrees.

OK, I'm kind of new to the F-150 - While I have the gauge showing up, I don't know where y'all are getting the actual measured numbers from. Is that info available on the display, or does it require a separate measurement device?
Thanks
