Default 10 speed question/comparison

Under light acceleration here is what I notice. When the transmission shifts from 1-3, as it goes into 3 the rpms will rise and then immediately go down slightly. Let's say when 3 engages its at about 2100, then drops to about 2000 and then starts to climb again. It's not a big deal but it seems odd to me. I'm at about 2100 miles and the transmission is smooth as butter other than this issue. I'm just curious if this is normal. Any thoughts appreciated.

How close the gears are/quick shifts/rpms.....like a 6 spd in 6th...rpm......to a 10 spd in 10th....i think its crazy....

I had the luxury/misfortune of owning a 16 and a 17, both 3.5EB's, I would say without a doubt the 10spd is much better. The only thing I find is if you really baby the throttle, the 10 spd does not feel very lively, but under normal acceleration or moderate throttle this truck just wants to rock and roll. Took the wife and kids out the other day and from a red light I drove away normally, then gave it 3/4 throttle and they all started freaking out about how fast we were going. If you enjoy driving and having a reactive sports car feel, this combo nails it.

I'm just trying to get the feel of what's right. My guess is they all do what mine does but I wanted reassurance. I agree with the performance aspect when you are 1/2-3/4 throttle. I have a different opinion on light acceleration. I like the way it performs. It really works hard to get in the highest gear possible. It makes you have to increase throttle pressure to get things moving more quickly. The logic in this system is simply amazing to me.

So cruising you mash pedal3/4.....did it drop from?.10 to 6th or 3rd.........like a 6spd would......im only looking for why the problems on the 10spd....looking at gear ratios......10spd sounds great but ideally your limited to hwy speeds....most here 100kph...or 120 in toronto....lol

All I can say is to me it acts appropriately based on throttle input. The more pressure the more aggressive the downshift will be. It's very impressive to me.

^^ Ditto the trans is not noticeable...the way it should be. Sport mode is way better on the 10spd IMO

Could this be the same thing that the 5.0 6 speeds were known to do? I have read here that it torque converter.

Torque converter lockup! I have no idea what that is but I keep finding this when I would search for the rpm drop in third behavior. I found that it was the 5.0 versions but this was on the 6 speeds. Both my old 14 and 15 do this. I believe you can get rid of it with a tune. I may have to look into that.

Given you have a 10 speed I have no idea if this is the same thing but it describes the torque converter lockout I have read about.

That seems really early to lock the torque converter but you may be correct. I'm hoping others will let me know what theirs is doing.

Mine lets out a nice clunk now and then, I think when it downshifts, kinda annoying.
