Question Tailgate issues

I went to close the gate a week or so ago and it popped off a bit easier than I would have imagined.

The passenger side mounting piece on the gate itself appears that it may have been a little bent, not sure if that was from my closing or from a prior bad act.

It appears that it's a metal bowl with a plastic/rubber insert that fits around the hinge, it's the metal "bowl" that's bent slightly.

When I put it back on, it did go on and opens/closes just fine, but there's still a concern that there's a weak point there.

You are correct. This is a weak point even when it's new. I would replace the rubbers on both sides and if necessary use a hammer to lightly tap the cup back into shape. If it breaks, the only way to repair it is to weld a replacement cup back onto the bed, then paint.
