Default New Bed Topper

Today I purchased a new ARE Topper for my 13' Blue Jean's Blue Lariat S/Crew. Of course the topper is in the wrong color. I'm thinking of removing all the hardware that attach the Windows & Rear Hatch just leaving the bare painted fiberglass shell. By doing this I can prep the shell properly and minimize the efforts when it's re-sprayed. Have any of you guy here done this..? do you think the results are worth the efforts...? Tell me what you think.

Never done that but seen an example where someone tried to paint the topper after masking and it looked just like that...a short cutted job ..Do the proper prep- It will shine for years. I have a ARE Z and love it. My topper sales guy said they take these to a body shop and they sand prime and paint follow with a clear coat- Just like it was the truck so it matches and stays looking good- Bet he charges a ton though.

I've painted many a truck caps/toppers in my day. We always took everything apart. If you did it before you even brought it in, i bet the body shop would love you! Haha!
