Minor rusting
I had a question for all the expert body and paint people out there. I just bought a 05 screw. It had chrome fender flares and stick on rocker guards. I am not a fan of chrome so I took then all off. Upon removing them I found a few things.
1: the fender flares have rubbed and in spots it has started taking off paint.
2: there is bubbling paint on some of the fender corners
3: where they screwed the flares and mud flaps to the flange inside the wheel well the holes have rusted a little.
4: there appears to be little rust dots about the size of a pen head all over the truck especially under where the stick on rockers were.
I have a feeling that is why they put the rocker guards on was to not see this. Is my only option a complete body overhaul to remove the rust or can I buff out the small dots and then just replace the areas in the fenders and repaint?

My 2000 F-150 is a dark metallic blue and it has the same issue only bigger dots. I tried buffing with 3M rubbing compound and it did nothing. I stopped at the local auto paint supply and they said it was the clear coat that was bad and only sanding it down with 2000 grit wet and dry and a new clear coat would fix the problem. I love my truck but I'll just keep waxing it to a beautiful "5 foot paint job" before I spend the time and money on this. Good luck with yours.
