for the fuel lines- just pull the rails and set to the side without disconnecting the lines- ensures no leaks later.
but here's the gist
disconnect battery, remove exhaust itiems. remove intake and fuel items. remove front cover (have to remove pulleys and belt driven accessories in order to do so.) mark your timing chains and gears so you can reinstall the exact way they are right now. remove timing chains and gears- you don't need any special tools or any of that **** since your removing everything and your gonna put it back on the same way. (take lots of pictures, it'll help you later). now you will loosen the head bolts (if you can't pull the bolts out of the head don't worry you should be able to pull the head off with them still in the head. wipe all surfaces with brake cleaner. now- reverse everything. ask any specifics you like or pm me if you need help. I know this was vague

finally got around to working on the truck (walter). did the body lift, the cab at least.

makes a ton more room with the body lift.

just curious about 2 things.

1 do i have to remove the power steering pump and the ac comp to get the front cover off?

and two, i took a picture after removing the dr side valve cover. hos this motor look for wear? it looks fairly clean to me. the guy i got it from said he changed the oil reg. i see slight wear on the cam lobes but that looks fairly normal for me. but i dont know fords and just want to know if there is anything in particular to llok at.

Internals look clean, oil looks like it was changed reg. if tappent don't rattle she'll roll. Make sure you don't clog up your passageways. Look your headbolts over real good as you take them out.

and the thing under the intake (have no idea what that is) do i have to unbolt it from the intake to remove the intake from the heads or will it just come up w/ the intake?

thank
leon
and if there is a thread with a write up on this already i couldnt find it so im sorry if this gets asked all the time.

Leon,
I have never seen a writeup on how to remove cylinder heads. From what I have seen on your thread you know what you are doing (you have the KNACK) to figure it out. The clue here is to document what you are doing. The very first head I removed was from a late year 55 Chevy 1/2 ton 6 cyl. The late year designator was a 12 V electrical system. Sure wish I had that truck now even though it was a bowtie.

Hopefully you only have to remove one head.
Pay attention to
Cam follower position, make sure they go back into the same position as they came out.
Send the head to your favorite machinest
Have him hottank the head and magniflux the head. Hopefully you do not have a cracked head. If there is a crack replace it with a junkyard head. Have this head cleaned and magnifluxed. If good, get the valve seats remachined as well as the valves. This one side needs to retain the stock configuration after the machine shop work. Your machine shop will help you there.
