Exclamation won't crank when cold

I just picked up a new truck, 99 f-150 with the 4.2 v6, and now for some reason it won't start when cold, if it's over about 15 degrees outside it starts fine, much colder and the solenoid engages but it won't crank. Anybody have any idea what's going on? when it does start it fires first time no hesitation so I don't really want to throw a new starter in if I don't need to

Default no start

i'm glad I don't have to deal with that much cold .
it may be coincidental . the truck runs good though if it starts ?
how old is the battery they ? it may have a couple of weak or dead cells ; make sure it has enough water . I use distilled water only . even then I understand you can dilute the acid enough and make it in effective .
if you have corrosion at the battery post it should be clean and tight . battery cables will hide corrosion within the cable insulation where you cant see it.
do you know how to bypass the solenoid ? bypass the solenoid by touching a wire from the battery side over to the starter side . this may produce an arc but touch firmly . if the starter engages then replace the solenoid .
good luck let us know what you find .

Most likely the battery is the problem.

Have it load tested or just replace it.

battery is 3 days old, I put new gold terminals on when I put the battery in as I will be putting my stereo into this truck eventually. have load tested just to be sure and is good, as is alternator for that matter. the contacts look like **** on the starter itself and now that it's warmed up enough for it to start i'm going to bring it into my shop today so I can clean all the contacts and go from there.

And gassing94 this is the warmest it's been in months.

Get a Optima yellow top, I got one for my truck 2 weeks after I got it. And it cranks first time everytime ..... even after have the stereo running with a aftermarket amp n sub for almost 2 hours while I was detailing.... it will last u forever.... I would never out another battery other then a Optima yellow top in any of my trucks... I had one in my blazer in Alaska and that turn on first try at negative 60 days
