Default White smoke

I have a 1999 4.6 with 145K that I bought about 6 months ago. After the first oil change I started noticing a huge plume of white smoke when I start the engine but it doesn't appear to smoke after that - not until it sits for several hours. It uses about 1qt every 1K miles. No oil residue under the car or on the engine. Is something just stuck or dirty or is my engine terminal?

Did you check your coolant?? Sounds like you may have a small head gasket leak.

If its not coolant its bad valve guide seals. The smoke would be gray but somtimes its hard to tell the diff.
