the blocks are more or less homogeneous. I have an explorer motor in my car.

Well, the valve cover mounting holes are different. So,the engine that you swapped from would have to be complete with valve covers or you would have to purchace new ones. The PI heads are also different.I have not tried to swap a Romeo PI head to a Windsor PI head or vice/versa.I do not know if they will swap with little to no modifications or not.I do not know, but I think the front accessory drive components are also different.I have seen various different P/S pumps.I did not pay attention to see whether they are Romeo or Windsors. We swapped a Romeo 4.6 to a Windsor 4.6 ,but the Windsor 4.6 was out of E series. It had to have everything changed.BTW the truck was a 97 F-150.

if you are swapping the entire engine, why would you need new valve covers? I have never seen a junkyard sell a complete motor without valvecovers? They are a dime a dozen, the valvecovers on my 2002 Explorer motor were cast in 1991. what difference does teh PI vs. NPI head make? Besides matching the manifold to the head, there is an automatic 40hp bump.

to run Windsor heads on a romeo block, all that needs to be changed is the valvecovers and timing cover.

Who said anything about swapping a junkyard engine? The original post was what engines could be swapped?

I have noticed some differences in the camshaft bearing supports on the various 4.6l and 5.4l engines. Some have a girdle and some have individual camshaft bearing suports.Does anyone know what engines have what configuration?I have not tried all the different variations of the swaps.I did swap a set of non PI heads to PI heads. That was a relatively simple swap.

romeos have girdles, windsors have individual caps. Thats besides the point, Romeos have 11 bolt valvecovers, whereas Windsors have 13 and a passenger side oil fill.

The Mustangs have Romeo engines with a passenger side oil fill.I do not understand what this has anything to do with anything.

Then Ill revert back to my base question, on an F150 engine, whether it be Romeo or Windsor, assuming the engine is complete, what needs to be changed?

As far as I know all the Mustangs used Romeo engines with the 6 bolt crank, except the 03/04 Cobra with the 8 bolt crank.I do not know why al the variances. The Romeo plant is just across the lake from the Windsor plant. It looks like they could use some common tooling.

Assuming that you have a complete engine,I would think nothing would have to be changed.Try it and let me know.
