Trans shifts hard when in 4 low
So I am new to the forum and I have had my 2001 f150 supercrew for about a month now and have noticed when i put the truck in 4 low it shifts really hard and clunks and sometimes i can't hardly keep it from moving when holding down the brakes. When i get going it shifts very fast and hard in 4 low. I didnt know if this was something normal with them or if something is wrong. if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. thanks

The shifting sounds rather normal in four low. Low gearing makes the transmission shift up faster to match the engine rpm which will increase faster. Hard shifts are because of the torque increase to the drive line by the low gearing. Clunking and not able to hold with the brake, don't know.

It's mainly when i shift it into drive in 4 low it clunky and really wants to go. I haven't checked my brakes to see if they need work. I was just concerned about the hard shift and clunk

I'm not sure on the reduction for the transfer in 4Lo, but they are usually quite substantial. Basically your motor has a lot more mechanical advantage over your brakes. The hard shifting is probably just your transmission hitting the gear with more force than normal operations.
