Rebuilding my engine
I was just wondering how long it would take an amature to completely rebuild my engine following a book? I don't have any experience inside of an engine, other than a few head gaskets, heads, and an intake gasket. I just don't know how long it would take.
If you are rebuilding a 4.9 its one of the easy ones. The key to time is having all you machine work done and all the parts out on the table ready when you start. The trick is making sure all bearing clearances are correct and follow all torque specs. Oh yea, No drinking during the assembly process
.
Thanx torkum, Yea it is my 4.9 they were having a 50% off sale at the junkyard so it got me thinking about doing one. I don't drink anymore i can't being on all these pills. And i have alot of time on my hands and i need to do something, just wondering how many hours it would take to do it.
i think an amateur could do one in a good 2-5 days with all parts available and tools. should only cost like 150 for a machining on the block, 60 on the heads providing you got new guides. At least thats what it is out here.
Make sure you don't install some of those bearings up side down. or you will have a seized motor...

Take your time, read and re-read, check and re-check everything. It's actually an enjoyable and empowering experience to be able to say, "yep, I rebuilt it".
I suggest the time frame would be more toward the 4-5 day range since this is your first rodeo.
