Default help with spark? issue....no start

first of all.....im new to the site and im sorry if this is in the wrong place but im still trying to figure this site out.
problem is this, I have a 87 f150 with a 4.9 6 4x4, it died with me this evening while i was driving home. it started sputtering like it was running low or out of gas but its not....using a spark tester i discovered that its not firing right, heres whats really got me puzzled........while checking the spark i kept hearing the fuel relay clicking like crazy, after i removed the relay i kept hearing another light sound like a fuel pump running but its not the pump, the noise i hear is very light and i cant pinpoint where its coming from, its in the engine compartment i know.....i have discoverd the fuel pump relay is clicking uncontrolably with this noise im hearing, if the noise stops which it does then the relay stops clicking..........the fuel system is working great, good fuel flow and pressure. it is throttle bodied also, and all injectors are working as far as i can tell. the truck will not start. the spark issue is weird. with the key on and the tester inplace it sparks slowly when i turn the motor over and at times the spark indicator will stay lit with the key on but not turning the motor.......anyhow, im lost and could really use some help here.......
any advice is appreciated. thanks

Check the wiring harness around the exhaust manifold to see whether you have any fried wires that are intermittently shorting out.
