Default A/C compressor question

Ok. I'm new to the forum. I have 1999 F150 5.4L. For the longest time i've been hearing a knocking noise from the engine compartment, just couldn't figure out what it was. The other week i opened the hood and determined that it was my a/c pulley. Friday my truck was running for all of 10 seconds before it stalled and would not start again. took the battery out to have it checked and and it was bad, bought a new and installed it, truck still wouldn't start but the starter was engaging and motor was not cranking over....saw in one of the forum on here about the clutch pulley being seized up. how are people bypassing the a/c pulley when the set up are different without taking the compressor off or buying a bypass pulley? The pattern for my truck w/wo a/c is different. And what should i do? Have never messed with an a/c unit before
