Default Alternator

hello all, I am in need of a new alternator for my truck and was wondering if anyone recommend a certain kind. I know i can get one from ford but was also thinking of looking at napa or autozone. Didn't know if anyone else had gone this route. Also is it worth the money to get a brand new one or should i get a refurbished one?

DO NOT buy a rebuilt. Buy only newly manufactured. Most rebuilders do not replace the final diodes in Ford alternators, a common fault. AS long as it makes the correct voltage, it passes inspection. They do not check for voltage going back into the alternator leaving you with a dead battery overnite. Most rebuilt warranty covers replacement only. Unless you like replacing alternators and often, buy a new one. I've had good luck with NAPA new alternators.
