5.4 in 2006 E350
We have a van pool for work, one guy owns the 2006 e350 and we all chip in for fuel. About 3 weeks ago the van (5.4 w/ 100,000 miles) started to make a ticking sound that would vary w/ the rpms. The owner took it to the dealer where it was purchased used (20,000 miles) and the dealer kept it for a week and did some valve work.....$2600.00.
Well the truck still ticks, the owner takes it back, the general manager of the dealership listens and says it is a connecting rod bearing. Not associated with the head repair. Owner says it is the exact same noise he paid $2600.00 to have fixed, general manager says, " I am not going to put a whole motor in this van".
The bad thing is, the van was picked up by the owner's brother after the first repair, and the dealer said they would leave the receipt in the van....no receipt was left. The owner paid by credit card over the phone as he was out of town on a field team and he wanted us to have use of the van for work.
Any suggestions as to what to do from here?

Argue loudly with the service manager so that customers in the showroom can hear, then threaten to drive it through the from window if they don't man up and fix it....
It worked for my mother.....
NEVER argue with a loud 5 foot woman!

Well they did mail the receipt to him. Poor kid had to take out a loan to have a used motor put in by someone else. I'm wondering if he should just keep driving it till he can save up the cash or it blows.
Is it a knock, not a tick? a spun rod bearing can be very dangerous to drive with. Take care of your bottom end before you blow a hole in your block! And for god's sake take that dealer to court if you have to. That's not right.
