Default 400/6.6?

i recently bought a 79 f100 4x4 with a 400 engine i have done some research and found that they have alot of potetional but i was wondering if the after market changes r worth the money or does the engine have enought hp now. it mostly gonna be a off road or daily driver. any comments or anything would help

ez swap out.... go with a 429 or 460... the 400 and 460 share the same bellhousing pattern

The 400 was not a very good performer in stock configuration. It was dependable though. It dosent take much to wake it up. Start with a low rise aluminum intake, 4 bbl carb in the 650-750 cfm range and an RV cam swap if you feel energetic. I'm a huge fan of updating the distributer to the Unilite electronic. Make them start like a dream and run well.
