eddun 1, use the search button. Have seen a site selling COPS for $125 a set, maybe that was for injectors. Sorry, no experience with COPS as my tiny 4.2 is old school. Good luck.

My 2001 5.4 also has a missfire after the engine gets hot!
The initial diagnoses had no codes on the scanner. Then mechanic was able to duplicate the problem (after engine was hot) and the scanner showed a misfire on cylinders 5 & 7.
Had the plugs (Autolite Double Platinum) and coil connectors changed. Ran great until after a couple hudred miles and started missing again!
The truck only has 63K miles on it and I believe they're 100K plugs, right?
Sorry I'm old school, COP? Does that mean Coil on Plugs?
Can any one help me?

Get those Autolites out of there. If you check them I will bet the electrodes are burn out. Triton engines only run on Motorcrafts and for performance NGKs [the Lightning boys recommend changing the NGKs every 20k]. Denso Iridiums are ok in performance apps too.

Okay I'll check'um. When mech first changed them it ran even worse so I brought it back and he said the parts store gave him the wrong plugs. Now has the autolights but engine still misfires.
What about my 100K spark plug question? is it unusual for the plugs not to last?
Should I be checking the coils too?

When you said the coil connectors, did you mean the boots only? If he only changed the boots you might want to consider the coils also. Remember to fill those boots up with dielectric grease.

Thanks, I think it is the boots. I hate to admit it but I din't know. The reciept only say's coil connector (SPB102A) at $6.04 apiece. We'll check the coils too if he hasn't already.

Okay, My mechanic says he did install Motorcraft plugs after I brought the truck back to him. But because he didn't charge me anythig for the 2nd visit I only saw the 1st Autolight receipt.
Is there a reliable way to check the coils for misfire? He says its tough to check them.
Would they cause a misfire after heating up? Engine runs great when cool.
Could there be something else we need to look at?
I'm assuming he installed the boots with grease.

Hot News flash.....after 16 plugs and 10 coils later.I found this just by dumb luck.I had my genisus scanner on my truck and it informed me of a missfire on #4 so i replaced soon after i still had a miss and was like what the hell.so with the truck running i unplugged the Coils One at a time to hear and feel a differance in the engine i tested all of them and found that #8 didnt seem to make the engine stumble more.and wiggled the conection(unpluged an plugged in and it seem to fix the problem...so if your unplugging your coils make sure they are secure and plugged back in tight because they may wiggle loose....Hope this help..It sure helped me
