I have been lookin for answers on the differences to see what power adders are available. AFAIK the blocks are the same but that's where it stops. Different heads and intake manifolds, etc.

Hopefully one of the Ford mechanics can chime in

I think some internals are different going from my 04 f150 with the 4.6 to the 02 mustang with the 4.6. I think I recall something was different for torque.

97-00 F-150s with a 4.6 are the non-PI 2V variety (teardrop shaped intake ports). 01-03s w/ 4.6 are PI 2Vs (ports are more rectangular). 04 and up F-150s with 4.6 are 3Vs I believe. I know the 04s w/ 5.4 are 3Vs.

There are also differences in heads , pertaining to Romeo(11 bolts) and Windsor (13 bolts), and the timing covers that go with them. I couldn't tell you positively whether Windsor heads will bolt to a Romeo block, or vice versa. I've never tried. GOOGLE is your friend for further investigation.

As for basic engine design I.e. truck vs. car, there are differences in the cam profiles, as well as intake design. Don't recommend using car intakes on trucks.

The 4.6 2v continued in the trucks till 2010 however there are variations between 04-08 and 09-10 and yes as stated above id not recommended you use a car cam or intake in a truck
