Newbie dumb question. 3 valves = 2 intake, 1 exhaust?

THat is correct. Two small intake valves flow better than one big valve

The intake flow is so good that at low speeds one runner is blocked as to produce more low end torque. When the need for the extra flow comes in the runner valve opens to let both valves flow.
